This garden project began in Glasgow, early Spring 2014. It was to turn out to be a garden design and build that brought together all that we had learned in modern sustainable landscape design and construction methods, to that date.

Unliked and unused

The client had extended their property and hit a dead end with the garden. It was primarily used to get to the garage and garden gate, along with being a slightly precarious play area for their two young kids. They were an outdoor-loving family, and wanted to be outdoors far more.

Creating a journey

We were approached to create a naturalised family space that the whole famiy could enjoy. We were chosen because of our ethos and track record in sustainable design and construction. The client was looking for a low environmental impact design and a wildlife-friendly space they could use.

Work with what’s there

We reused the existing paving, plants and structures. No skips were needed.

Re-use, Recycle, Reduce

We reworked the garden with what all ready existed and then added to it.

Inside living outside

The new extension connects to the garden using three mini patios planted with kitchen herbs. A lawn adds a soft landing to any shortcuts. Should a journey venture further than a coffee on the top ‘mini patio’ there is now a large outdoor patio terrace off the last ‘mini patio’ step. From here the main path continues on to the garage or splits off along a secret path to monkey bars and a play area.

Everything has a use

The existing irises infused with couch grass, made for a great green roof on the Wendy House, aka ‘weeds Alcatraz’.
